"This is an opportunity to be a part of something beautiful, powerful, and meaningful. NOW is the moment we have waited for all of our lives and anything is possible within it."
"And homeless, near a thousand
homes I stood. And near a thousand
tables, I pined and wanted food."- William Wordsworth

" Our freedom was not won a century ago, it is not won today, but some small part of it is in our hands, and we are marching no longer by ones and twos, but in legions of thousands, convinced now it cannot be denied by any human force."Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"The fundamental belief that guides each of us here at Hetrick-Martin is that young people, when given the opportunity, sufficient resources, and love, can develop the tools and confidence to take charge of their lives and chart a course for successful futures."Thomas Krever, Executive DirectorThe Hetrick-Martin Institute is the nation'soldest and largest LGBTQ youth-servingagency, as well as the founding non-profitof the Harvey Milk High School (HMHS).Click on the link in bold to visit them.
"We must grow wise for the children of this earth, that we may give them the tools to teach us greater things."Chloe Michelle Noble
"If we are to reach real peace in this world, we shall have to begin with children. If they grow up in their natural innocence, we won't have to struggle, we won't have to pass fruitless idle resolutions. But we shall go from love to love and peace to peace. Until at last all the corners of the world are covered with that peace and love for which consciously or unconsciously the whole world is hungering."Mohandas Gandhi
"We approach the homeless where they are and make no judgements. We emphasize treating people with dignity and respect no matter where they are in their life."Ken Small
"This is the tiny seed of faith, that grows into the little act of trust, that blossoms into one small and simple prayer, that opens into a field of love and healing, that completely transforms the landscape of the heart."
"I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity......say that I was a drum major for justice; say that I was a drum major for peace; I was a drum major for righteousness......I just want to leave a committed life behind."Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"We think sometimes that poverty is only hungry, naked, and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty."Mother Teresa of Calcutta
"Persons who have been homeless often carry within them a certain philosophy of life which makes them apprehensive about ownership."Jerzy Kosinski
"Imagine being invited to a banquet where you bring your own meal. You brought a steak, baked potatoes, asparagus, and Boston cream pie. Joining you at that table were a sampling of the human diversity from your community. Across from you at this table was a mother with children who had nothing to bring. How much would you enjoy your meal without sharing it?"
"We must teach individuals who happen to be homeless, that they are allowed to start over; that their life can be perceived as wildly abundant - even if in the mere fact that they have practically nothing and therefore......a world of possibility available to them. We must do whatever we can to provide resources for them to not only tap this potential, but to effectively utilize it, maintain it, and cultivate it for the future. More importantly, we must first be healers in this work. For each homeless individual, although unique in Spirit, has experienced the same hopeless and helpless state of dehumanization. This above all needs to be addressed before any other success can take place."Chloe Michelle Noble
"The ability to start out upon your own impulse is fundamental to the gift of keeping going upon your own terms......never resting upon the oars of success or in the doldrums of disappointment. Getting started, keeping going, getting started again - in art and in life - it seems to me this is the essential rhythm."Seamus Heaney
"Some people see things as they are and say 'why'. I dream of things that never were and say 'Why Not'."George Bernard Shaw
"The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need [individuals] who can dream of things that never were."John F. Kennedy
"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice. But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people. Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group. For many years now, I have been an outspoken supporter of civil and human rights for gay and lesbian people. Gays and lesbians stood up for civil rights in Montgomery, Selma, in Albany, Ga. and St. Augustine, and many other campaigns of the Civil Rights Movement. Many of these courageous men and women were fighting for my freedom at a time when they could find few voices for their own, and I salute their contributions."
- Coretta Scott King
"All forms of oppression seek to destroy the very nature of the person it afflicts. And all who are oppressed often experience deep isolation, fear, shame, and pain. Queer people then have their own beautiful story to tell about overcoming such oppression. Our experiences of oppression are as powerful and profound, as are our stories of triumph in overcoming adversity. What an ancient legacy we belong to - this Social Justice Movement. We stand among other great and noble people who have fought this battle before us......and won. We stand now ready, fearless, and without shame. We stand in a place of honor, equally beside all people longing for Human Rights - to uplift them, to encourage them, to inspire them, and to bear them up in our common struggle for equality."Chloe Michelle Noble 2008
